Dan, what is your take on young goalies like Nilsson and Poulin not being able to break through with the Isles?

They may have been rushed a bit or put in crappy situations but I think That they just didn't develop like we thought or that they plateaued.. I mean poulin was a fifth round pick... I don't think their is anything to look Into.

Lundquist was a 7th rounder, just saying...
Coaching ? Player developement issues?

Hopefully Halak is ready to go. I agree that the back up situation needs to be addressed but I wouldn't go elsewhere yet. Give CJ a few starts on this long road trip to gain some confidence and then decide if he continues his poor play. At least the fans wont get in his head if he stinks it up again.

He was, more draft picks don't pan out rather than do.. We just tend to harp on the goalies. While the isles have drafted well, nobody talks about Dustin Kohn, Rhett Rakshani, Aaron Ness, Corey Trivino etc...

Sure there is blame for both the team and players. Just frustrating one of the young goalies have not worked out with the Isles. Hopefully the latest goalie prospects work out better. I think with the young goalies you just have to give them their time to develop with the best possible coaching and pair them with a vet goalie when they make the NHL and bring them along slowly. Let them slowly take over the #1 spot.

For the most part on Saturday, the Isles played fine and carried the play.

I rarely disagree with you Dan but from the puck drop, the Isles were skating like they were playing a pickup game of hockey vs. a much-less talented team, which is disturbing seeing as how not too long ago, the Isles were the team that stole points on occasion from a superior opponent who took them lightly.

Despite player improvement through age & experience and the addition of new players to the team via Bridgeport, trades and FA acquisitions, this team is still making the same type of rookie management & coaching mistakes we've seen all along. Winning covers up some of those shortcomings but eventually, the odds & probability catch up with you.

As with previous players & current coaches, it always seems Garth waits just a little too long to decide on moving people — AFTER the damage is done. RDP, AMac, Boyes, PMB, Rolston, Reasoner all should have been cut loose before they were. Strait is the current example of this. Cappy getting outcoached & unable to motivate a team for 20 minutes with a 3-goal lead is nothing short of deplorable for a coach with 4 years under his belt. Like you said about Poulin....maybe he HAS plateaued and as a 5th rounder, it's really no surprise. Our coaching has also reached its' ceiling and we might be in for a dose of reality in the next month or so, if Halak or another key player goes down for any length of time.

Interesting thought possibly with Elliot coming back to the Blues I wonder if Snow would kick the tires on Brodeur?

If you said this at the beginning of the season I would've mocked you mercilessly. Now it doesn't seem like a bad idea.

Might come down to looking at Brodeur. Still would give Johnson a few more starts and hopes he gets it together.

so since lundquist was selected in the 7th rounder and is now successful, therefore every goalie drafted in the 7th round should be expected to be successful?

Not anymore than any goalie selected in the 5th round should be expected to be a bust.

They may not have a choice if his play doesn't improve.

Garth and Wang should not be worried about a backup goalie with another year on the contract and not someone making huge money. Isles need a backup they can trust and that can take over if needed.

Yeah cant keep beating that drum if he keeps playing like he has. Cant hide a goaltender on the third or fourth line when theyre bad you lose the game and he has been BAD.

I am hoping he can play his way out of it. I'm just not sure I'll be able to survive watching it.

I agree 100% with the first paragraph. They looked listless and disinterested. The only time they carried the play was on the two shifts the first line scored on and that was a couple of minutes. The rest of the game they half assed it.
